86 dates, beginning in New York for a sold out Union Pool. Then to Austin, TX for five shows at SXSW. A Europe tour, America tour, over to Barcelona for Primavera, before carrying on around Europe for shows and festivals with Thurston Moore and DIIV. Canadian festivals, a New York headline show at Baby’s All Right, European festivals, finally finishing up back in New York for a show in Rockafella Plaza. 2022 - WHAT a summer!
This picture was taken in Tucson, Arizona, of our hotel and venue for the night. Places come and go quickly, and the memories that stick around from them start to muddle up, merge together and get lost. This day, for some reason, I remember clearly. I’d infact been looking forward to it the most, Tucson feeling very far from home, and one of those places I’d probably never have gone to otherwise.
We’d been invited by surprise to see The Smashing Pumpkins for their show at the Casino Del Sol amphitheater the night before, and had left our stay in El Paso a day early to catch it. The drive took us through White Sands National Park, New Mexico, which is equally bizzare and blinding.
Hotel Congress, a mission revival style building, known for being the site of the capture of gangster and bank robber John Dillinger in 1934, had the feel of an old western railroad hotel (the track less than 100 yards away added to this for sure), with its very period interiors (think a different, but equally loud carpet in each room), southwestern Native American wall art, and generally very low lit, saloon aesthetic.
Our show in Club Congress, a small room, turned out as probably one of the best we’d played together. The past 24hrs considered, it felt to me like a real moment as a band, as friends, to breathe in and appreciate how far we’d come - a feeling I’ve been both aware and grateful of at so many points through this year. Thank you to everyone I’ve shared these times with, and to those who worked so hard to make it all possible.
